Not Achieving Results
Have you ever gone through a Strategic Planning process and still find that you’re not achieving the results you had predicted? It can feel like treading treacle!
According to an HBR article ‘Mastering the Management System’ by Robert S. Kaplan and David P. Norton, they state “The failure to balance the tensions between strategy and operations is pervasive: various studies done in the past 25 years indicate that 60% – 80% of companies fall short of the success predicted from their new strategies.”
Questions often then get raised about the value of not only the Strategy but the Strategic Planning process itself. Feelings of overwhelm and/or frustration are quite common if there is a lack of clarity around how to execute the strategic plan.
This can result in all sorts of issues within the organisation from a lack of engagement with your people through to not getting traction on the things that really matter. And it can often leave us feeling like we are just surviving, which ultimately means we a slipping backwards.
It was Morris Chang who said, “without strategy, execution is aimless – without execution, strategy is useless”.
